29 Best Reactions to Beyoncé's Homecoming Documentary and Album - HarpersBAZAAR.com Posted: 17 Apr 2019 12:00 AM PDT
Beyoncé dropped her Homecoming documentary on Netflix in the wee hours of the morning, but that didn't stop fans from dropping everything to watch it right after it released. The new film documents the superstar's preparations for her momentous Coachella performance in 2018 and its lasting cultural impact. In addition to the Netflix release, Beyoncé also dropped a surprise 40-track live album featuring recordings from the performance, like "Crazy in Love," "Formation," her cover of "Lift Every Voice and Sing," and "Say My Name" (with Destiny's Child). The project also includes new additional songs like "Before I Let Go," which was originally recorded by Frankie Beverly and Maze in 1981, and "I Been On," which Bey previously released with "Bow Down" on SoundCloud. The Beyhive rejoiced on Twitter while enjoying the new releases from their queen. Take a look at some of the best reactions below. Everyone seemed to lose their wigs. Some fans also took note of the inclusion of Bey's family in the documentary. Her and Jay-Z's seven-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, and their one-year-old twins, Rumi and Sir, make adorable, rare cameos in the film. But most importantly, fans praised how Beyoncé uplifted and celebrated Black culture through her performance, documentary, and album. The superstar's set was deeply inspired by historically black colleges and universities, which manifested in the band, uniforms, dancers, step teams, musical arrangements, references to greek life, and many more aspects in the show. Bey even explains in the doc, "Instead of me pulling out my flower crown, it was more important that I brought our culture to Coachella. Creating something that will live beyond me, that will make people feel open and like they're watching magic, like they're living in a time that's super special, a day that they will never relive. That's what I want." Homecoming also has a focus on Beyoncé's family (hence the cameos from her husband and kids), much like the performance itself. Bey invited important people in her life onstage, including Jay-Z, her sister Solange, and Destiny's Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, who are longtime friends and basically family to her. At 3 A.M. ET on April 17, Netflix released Beyoncé's highly anticipated two-hour long documentary Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé that explored the grueling preparation that went into her Coachella performance last April. As you may recall, her history-making performance, dubbed Beychella, paid tribute to black culture and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Twitter users were understandably hyped to finally watch Bey's project and learn more about the complexities behind her intricate two weekend-long headlining performances. However, based on Twitter's reaction, it appears they were not ready for the bonus look into her family's life. Bey got real and opened up about her "difficult" pregnancy with twins Sir and Rumi, which had fans all up in their feelings. All three of her children, including seven-year-old Blue Ivy, made rare on-camera appearances. In true Bey fashion, the documentary and intimate glimpse into her family's dynamics weren't the artist's only gifts to her fans. She also released a massive 40-track live-album (!!) at the same time as the documentary hit Netflix. Even crazier, Blue Ivy sang her own rendition of "Lift Every Voice and Sing," by James Weldon Johnson, which you can stream below. Naturally, the Beyhive couldn't get enough about their shared passion for all things Bey and her precious family. Below, we rounded up the best Tweets that cover a wide range of emotions including hilarious, shocked, and motivated to achieve our goals just like Bey (as long as we don't have to give up bread). Fans were ecstatic when they realized they got both a documentary and an album to stream. In the documentary, Bey got candid and revealed she had "an extremely difficult pregnancy," according to People. "My body went through more than I knew it could." Fans were shocked but appreciative of her openness. Others were highly impressed with Bey's resilience and determination to put in work after giving birth to her twins. When the twins appeared on screen, the Beyhive couldn't handle how cute they were. Some even believe Rumi is the spitting image of her mother. Of course, her husband Jay-Z was also on camera and was shown spending some time with his three children and wife. When Blue Ivy speaks (and sings) you listen. She also didn't come to play with the backup dancers and followed along as they practiced their choreography. Homecoming is available to stream on Netflix now. Watch here |
Beyoncé Launches the #BeforeILetGo Challenge In Her First Ever Instagram Story - ELLE.com Posted: 23 Apr 2019 12:00 AM PDT Courtesy of Parkwood EntertainmentNetflix Beyoncé made the world stop again last week when her glorious Netflix film Homecoming dropped, along with an accompanying live album. Homecoming: The Live Album features a bonus track called "Before I Let Go," a Bey-ified cover of the 1981 classic Frankie Beverly & Maze anthem that has sparked a new dance challenge across social media. In her first ever Instagram story, Bey gave the stamp of approval for the #BeforeILetGoChallenge by sharing over a dozen videos of her fans dancing along to the song. The singer, who until now has only used Instagram for highly curated grid posts, storied her appreciation with the heart eyes and bee emoji. The challenge requires an array of dance moves and a good amount of skill to nail them like Bey. Some of the lyrics instruct:
With Beyoncé officially launching the challenge, "Before I Let Go" is poised to take over the summer like Drake's #InMyFeelingsChallenge from last year. But expect to see more from Queen Bey in general—Variety reported that her Netflix deal has two more features to come, worth a cool $60 million. Here are some of the best #BeforeILetGoChallenge videos so far. |
