I remember watching Dawson's Creek as a teenager and listening to Jen explain to Dawson that girls spend a lot of time putting on makeup to make it look like they're not wearing any makeup. At the time the whole concept sounded ridiculous to me, a 13 year old who wore bright blue chubby liner and no mascara. Now I totally understand and often swear by the "no-makeup makeup look" when the occasion requires it or I just don't have the time/energy to go all out with fancy eye look. So here is my go-to natural everyday look.
For this makeup I used my new obsession, the Urban Decay Naked2 Basics (28€ here). It contains 6 eyeshadows perfect for these simple looks. Skimp is a great creamy highlight shade, the only one with a little bit of shimmer in it. Stark is my all-over-the-lid shade since it is quite close to my skin tone, then Frisk and Cover are my crease colors depending whether I want a more cool or warm toned look. Finally Primal and Undone are tow dark browns, again one more cool than the other.
One of the major issues I have with my face is the shape of my eyes. I have hooded AND droopy eyes, which I really dislike so the first thing I do is try to correct this with a matte brown eyeshadow (Frisk, Cover or a mix of the two) to give the illusion of a lifted eye and a differently shaped crease. This, combined with a highlighted inner eye with Skimp and a little bit of extra definition in the outer V with Primal, makes my basic eye look. On top of this I can start adding colorful shimmery shades on the lid and/or winged liner, but to keep it as natural as possible I apply a little bit of Undone along my lash line starting from the middle and going outward.
That is all for the eyes that only need a ton of mascara to help lift further the eye and a little bit of pencil to fill in very naturally the eyebrows. For the base, I either use a very light foundation like the L'Oréal Nude Magique Eau de Teint or just skip foundation altogether and go directly to my Maybelline Fit Me Concealer to cover up any darkness under the eyes and redness around the nose. A dusting of powder helps me keep the shine away for a few hours and a natural rose-tinted blush makes me look immediately healthier.
Now if I'm going for a very understated look that day, I will wear a nude lipstick like the Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate n.19 , which I raved about recently here. However, if you know me, I might not have time to do fancy eye makeup, but an extra minute to add a bold lipstick I can always find. So the other lip option for this look is Diva by MAC, which changes completely the final effect.
Which of the two looks do you prefer? What is your natural everyday makeup?
